Manny Kang walks 130 miles before running the London Marathon for Dementia UK

After 48 hours without sleep, Dementia UK fundraiser and Volunteer Ambassador Manny Singh Kang crossed another finish line – completing the London Marathon after an extraordinary 130-mile journey from Wolverhampton to London.

The 53-year old took on his ‘toughest challenge’ to raise money for families facing dementia, covering a total of 156 miles in support of Dementia UK.

Starting at his beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers’ home ground, Molineux, Manny walked for 48 hours through day and night to the London Marathon start line. He then completed the 26.2-mile event, covering a total distance of 156 miles.

He finished the marathon in 7 hours 22 minutes, running the first 10km before walking the rest of the route, and talking to many people on the way who had followed his journey and stopped to show their support.

“This challenge was my toughest yet”

“This challenge was my toughest yet – walking all the way down to London and running the marathon straight after without sleep. It was hard, but I’m so grateful for the support from my family and friends, and to everyone who has donated to the cause.

“Everyone affected by dementia should have access to specialist support, and I will continue to raise as much money as I can to help as many people as possible.”

Manny has supported Dementia UK since 2018 and has now raised an incredible £430,000, including £94,000 from this challenge alone.

Starting with Samosa Saturdays

As well as endurance events, Manny is also known for organising ‘Samosa Saturday’, during the Premier League season, serving homemade samosas to fans at Wolves home games in exchange for donations to Dementia UK.

His dedication to supporting families facing dementia led to him winning Fundraiser of the Year at the Pride of Britain Awards in 2024. Earlier this year, he was also awarded a Medal of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) in the King’s New Year Honours.

Supporting families facing dementia

“We are all amazed by the astounding and continued dedication of Manny. The extraordinary commitment he has shown to Dementia UK over so many years is truly inspiring, and we are proud to have him as a Volunteer Ambassador.

“Thanks to his ongoing hard work and generosity, more families than ever will be able to access the life-changing support offered by our Admiral Nurses and national Dementia Helpline.”
