Convert an existing nursing role into a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse

Role conversion gives organisations a flexible way to establish or expand an Admiral Nurse service while helping experienced nurses to develop their specialist dementia nursing skills and become part of the Admiral Nurse community.

Role conversion is one of several ways to establish or expand an Admiral Nurse service. Learn more about hosting or commissioning an Admiral Nurse service.

Is role conversion right for you?

For registered nurses

Already working in a dementia-related role? Role conversion gives you the opportunity to develop your career and dementia specialism as part of the Admiral Nurse community, while remaining with your current employer.

For organisations

Role conversion provides a flexible way to establish a new Admiral Nurse service or expand an existing one by building on the expertise of an experienced nurse already working within your organisation.

What is an Admiral Nurse?

Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who provide expert, relationship-centred support to families affected by dementia whilst supporting wider clinical practice and pathways of care.

The Admiral Nurse community is led by Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurse Academy, which supports nurses through ongoing practice and professional development to share and improve best practice.

Admiral Nurses work across many settings, including primary care, acute hospitals, hospices, integrated care and neighbourhood health services and other health and care settings.
