If you use British Sign Language (BSL), there are two ways to access support from Dementia UK.
You can contact our Helpline through a live BSL interpreter for advice and information, or book a dedicated online appointment with an Admiral Nurse and qualified BSL interpreter for more in-depth support.
Both services are free and confidential.
If you use British Sign Language (BSL), you can contact our Helpline through a live BSL video interpreter provided by Sign Solutions through InterpretersLive!.
This allows you to communicate directly with one of our specialist dementia nurses in a way that works best for you.

Our BSL dementia appointments provide dedicated time with an Admiral Nurse and qualified BSL interpreter.

Yes. Our Admiral Nurse virtual clinic appointments with a qualified British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter are completely free of charge. There is no cost to book or attend an appointment.
No. We provide a qualified, professional British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter for your appointment. The interpreter will attend the full session to ensure clear and accessible communication throughout.
Anyone who is Deaf or hard of hearing and affected by dementia can book a BSL appointment. You do not need a formal diagnosis to access support.
You can book a virtual appointment with a BSL interpreter or can book one of our virtual clinic appointments via phone or online.
Yes. All Admiral Nurse appointments are confidential.
We will keep your information private and secure in line with our privacy notice and data protection policies. What you discuss during your appointment will not be shared with anyone else without your permission.
The only exception to confidentiality is if we are concerned about the safety or wellbeing of you or someone else. In these rare situations, we have a safeguarding duty to take appropriate action to help keep people safe. If this were ever necessary, we would explain this to you clearly and sensitively.
