Admiral Nurse Sheridan with Aqib, Shahbanu and Penny

World Alzheimer’s Month

In their own words, Penny, Aqib and Shahbanu talk about the life-changing support of an Admiral Nurse.

A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or any form of dementia can be devastating. That’s why this World Alzheimer’s Month, we want to make sure everyone knows about the life-changing support our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses can offer, so that no one has to cope with dementia alone.

World Alzheimer’s Day is part of the awareness month and takes place on 21st September.

Two families who have been supported by our Admiral Nurses have worked with us to develop a brand new film, showing the difference they made to them and their family.

We believe no one should have to face dementia alone. With someone in the UK developing dementia every three minutes, we want every family living with the many challenges of dementia to know they have someone to turn to.

Our specialist nurses understand the complexities of dementia, offer practical solutions to the challenges dementia can bring and most importantly, see the person behind the diagnosis – It’s why many families often describe them as a lifeline.

I want to do anything I can to spread awareness of Admiral Nurses. We need more of them. It’s been a long journey for us, it would have made such a difference to have had an Admiral Nurse from the beginning. But the Helpline was invaluable.

At Dementia UK, we support anyone affected by dementia and their families – whatever stage they are at. It’s never too early or too late to reach out for support
