Expect dramatic views and scenery unlike any other in this brand-new Ultra Challenge!
Trek from England to Scotland along the stunning Berwickshire coastline and Scottish trails so more families can access our life-changing dementia support.
Starting from the charming town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, the marathon route takes challengers across the border onto the Berwickshire Coastal Path to Eyemouth and past St Abb’s Head. If you’re conquering the full double marathon, over one day or two, you’ll make your way up past Torness Nuclear Power Station to Dunbar, diverting inland along the River Tyne and part of the John Muir Way to the celebratory finish in the delightful seaside town of North Berwick.
Expect clearly signposted routes with marshals and medical care to support you along the way, plenty of rest stops with food, drink and massage, and an unbeatable community atmosphere. At the end of the course, your medal, finishers’ t-shirt and a well-deserved hot meal await – along with a huge sense of pride for helping ensure no one faces dementia alone.

Right now, nearly one million people are living with dementia in the UK. Too often, families struggle to find support, leaving them feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and alone.
The funds you raise will ensure more families can access the life-changing support of our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. Together, we can make sure no one faces dementia alone.
Read Will and his mum Ronnie’s story about how Ronnie’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease has impacted their lives, and how Admiral Nurses are providing their family with a lifeline.

Getting started
Fundraising ideas
Organising fundraising activities alongside your main challenge will help you smash your goal. Here are some ideas:
JustGiving
Setting up a JustGiving page is a great way to fundraise online. Share your link with family, friends and colleagues and watch the donations roll in.
You can use JustGiving to explain why you’re taking on your challenge for Dementia UK, keep track of how much you’ve raised and even share your training progress using Strava so your supporters can see how well you’re doing. The event organisers have set up official events on JustGiving so make sure you connect to the right event on your page.
The more you update and share your JustGiving page, the more donations you’ll receive. Contact events@dementiauk.org if you need more advice.
Gift Aid
If your supporters are UK taxpayers and their donation is voluntary (not proceeds of a sale), we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated, at no extra cost to them. Make sure they fill in the Gift Aid form or tick the correct boxes if they’re donating online.
If you’re fundraising through JustGiving and your page is connected to Dementia UK, the donations will automatically come to us. If you’ve got cash to pay in, you can do this online, by phone, by bank transfer or by post
How to pay in your fundraising
Every donation you raise, big or small, will make a huge difference to families facing dementia. Did you know a donation of just £4 to your fundraiser could pay for the telephone costs of one family calling our free Helpline for immediate support?
Sandra, who took on an Ultra Challenge for Dementia UK“The feeling of ‘we’re in this together’, coupled with the friendliness and support of staff, volunteers and fellow competitors, was truly uplifting and inspiring.”
