Dementia UK team wins prestigious industry award

Dementia UK’s Professional and Practice Development Team has won a prestigious Nursing Times Workforce Award.

Dementia UK’s Professional and Practice Development Team has won a prestigious Nursing Times Workforce Award, in the category of ‘Best Workplace for Learning and Development.’ The award win was announced at a ceremony in London on Wednesday 25th September 2019.

The Professional and Practice Development (PPD) team oversee the learning and develop of all of Dementia UK’s specialist Admiral Nurses. They have developed the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework, making sure our nurses are at the forefront of excellence in dementia care across all of the care settings they work in.

Nursing Times is a key publication which champions nursing news and developments in the UK. This award win adds to the growing recognition of the work of Admiral Nurses and Dementia UK, not just amongst the public but the wider health and social care workforces too.

The PPD team was praised for showing leadership in engaging with a growing workforce spanning the UK and for its comprehensive support, through 1:1s and masterclasses, to enhance Admiral Nurse specialism around the most complex cases of dementia. Their work has also been highly praised by Admiral Nurses. Many Admiral Nurses have exceeded more than 10 years in their roles demonstrating the PPD team’s commitment to strong retention amongst this relatively new model of nursing.
