Manny's story: " I wanted to help the older generations of our society who live with a progressive illness"

Volunteer Ambassador Manny Kang explains why he took up volunteering for Dementia UK.

Dementia UK Volunteer Ambassador: Manny Kang

I wanted to help the older generations of our society who live with a progressive illness and, after a quick google search, I came across Dementia UK. I soon realised it was not just older people that can be affected by dementia. For me dementia was still a subject not talked about enough, and when I found out about becoming a Volunteer Ambassador for the charity, I jumped at the chance.

I have always been into challenge events and I wanted to raise funds and awareness for Dementia UK as part of my role as a Volunteer Ambassador.

One of my biggest fundraisers was riding my bike from the Wolverhampton Wanderers FC ground – Molineux to Liverpool FC – Anfield. I am an avid Wolves fan, and this captured the imagination of many fans. However, the biggest success if that of Samosa Saturday. It is an event where we reward fans with a samosa for any donation. To this date we have served over 20,000 samosas’, many of which are prepared at home by my family.

I also help Dementia UK to raise awareness in the community. Becoming a Volunteer Ambassador, you get to share your experiences with others who may never get the opportunity or even know how to get involved. Volunteering is a wonderful thing to do and benefits my wellbeing, as well as making a huge difference to so many others.
