FAQs

What is the minimum age for volunteering?

Volunteers must be over 18 years old.

Who will support me?

A named staff member will be your main point of contact at the charity. They will work closely with you to get to know you, support you, provide all of the information and training that you need and help you make the most of your volunteering experience.

Will you interview me?

Some of our roles require us to find out more about you and talk through your answers. This is also a chance for you to find out more about the role and the charity, and for us to get to know you, your skills and interests.

If we feel that you are not the right fit for that particular role, we will discuss with you other ways to get involved with supporting the charity.

What support and training will I be given?

You will be provided with access to our volunteering hub where you will find all the relevant training necessary for your role.

Does volunteering with Dementia UK involve working directly with people living with dementia?

No. Our volunteers do not work with people living with dementia (although you may interact with individuals from time to time), but by helping the charity in a volunteer role, you will enable us to help more families benefit from the expert, compassionate support of our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses.

How long do I need to volunteer for?

You can give as little as a few hours, or you can volunteer regularly for us across the year. For more detailed information, please see the individual role descriptions.

Will I get paid?

Volunteer roles are unpaid. You are free to apply for any paid jobs that come up within the charity on our vacancies page.

Do you pay expenses?

Yes, we can cover reasonable out-of-pocket expenses for anything related to your volunteer role, on presentation of receipts. This might include travel to and from an event or postage costs. Further details about what is eligible for expensing is available on our volunteering hub.

Will I need references?

This is dependent on the role.
