The Berlin Marathon is one of the World Major Marathons, boasting a fast, flat route along which many world records have been broken amongst the elites. More than 50,000 runners will take to the historic German capital’s course – will you be one of them?
Apply to run with Dementia UK and raise vital funds so our specialist Admiral Nurses can provide life-changing support to more families facing dementia
The Berlin Marathon features a flat 26.2-mile loop course that starts and finishes near Brandenburg Gate. Runners pass through central areas like Tiergarten, Charlottenburg and Mitte, taking in landmarks such as the Reichstag and Potsdamer Platz. The route then extends south and east through districts including Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Neukölln and Schöneberg before returning to the city centre.
Known for its minimal elevation and wide roads, the course is renowned for fast times, with a memorable final push through the Brandenburg Gate just before the finish line.
The Berlin Marathon is perfect for beginners and elite runners alike. We hope to see you run with Team Dementia UK in the 2027 event!
Apply to take part in this incredible challenge and support families facing dementia.
If you were successful in the Berlin Marathon 2027 lottery and you would like to run for Dementia UK with your own place, please let us know – we’d love you to be on our team.
A lottery place is allocated to you directly from the Berlin Marathon organisers. You must have opted into the race organiser’s lottery to be in with a chance. The lottery for the 2027 Berlin Marathon is open between Friday 25th September and Wednesday 4th November 2026.
A charity place is allocated to you by a specific charity that has purchased places in the event. You must apply for a Dementia UK charity place through this webpage to be considered for one of our reserved places in the race.
The lottery place only requires a registration fee, whereas a charity place requires a registration fee and minimum sponsorship.
Yes, we encourage this! By applying for both the lottery and a charity place with Dementia UK, it doubles your chances in running the 2027 BMW Berlin Marathon.
We’re looking for detailed applications that include information about why you would like to run the Berlin Marathon for Dementia UK and how you plan to reach your fundraising pledge. We love to hear about your fundraising ideas and networks you can tap into. Be as thoughtful as possible in your answers to increase your chance of being shortlisted for a Dementia UK charity place.
Unfortunately, we always receive more applications for the BMW Berlin Marathon than we have places, so we can’t guarantee that everyone who applies will be able to secure a marathon place.
Due to the volume of applications we receive, we will not be able to make amendments to your application once submitted, so please take your time when writing and submitting your application and make sure it’s as detailed and realistic as possible.
Charity place participants pledge to fundraise a minimum amount for Dementia UK in their applications. The minimum we ask you to pledge is £1,200.
There is no minimum fundraising target for lottery place runners, we only ask you to raise what you can and spread the word about our Admiral Nurse services to help offer a lifeline to people living with dementia.
Your registration fee contributes to the admin cost of a Berlin Marathon place. However, these come at a high cost to charities and as a result, we ask for a higher fundraising target compared to other running events to help us to recover some of these costs. By raising a minimum of £1,200 or more, we can ensure that most of your fundraising goes towards helping families facing dementia.
We ask for a minimum pledge of £1,200 in line with what other charities ask their Berlin Marathon participants to fundraise.
We value every donation received to Dementia UK and carefully plan how to raise as much money as possible and how to spend that money to ensure that people living with dementia can access the best possible support.
The money you raise will help us increase the number of Admiral Nurses and achieve our goal of supporting every family who needs us. Find out more about the difference your fundraising can make and how our Admiral Nurse services are here for you and other people affected by dementia.
We ask that you only apply for one of our charity places if you’re confident in raising your minimum fundraising pledge (£1,200 or more).
Our Fundraising Team is here to support you every step of the way so you meet your fundraising goal. We can help with fundraising ideas, timelines, resources for your activities, tips for online fundraising, and more.
We recommend breaking down your fundraising target into smaller amounts, month by month, activity by activity. By focusing on raising a smaller amount for each month or activity, you’ll keep up the momentum for you and your supporters throughout your training and fundraising.
If you have applied for a Dementia UK charity place in the 2027 event, you will be notified of the outcome of your application by February 2027.
Applicants who are shortlisted for one of our charity places will go on to the next stage of their application and have a call with a member of our Events Team – usually the Event Manager.
If you are successful, we ask that you pledge to raise the minimum amount in your application (excluding Gift Aid), accept our terms and conditions, and pay a £50 registration fee to confirm your place.
If you have more questions about running this event and fundraising for Dementia UK, please contact our Events Team by email at events@dementiauk.org. We’re happy to help.

Getting started
Fundraising ideas
Organising fundraising activities alongside your main challenge will help you smash your goal. Here are some ideas:
If you have a charity place with Dementia UK and you need reminding of the fundraising plan in your application, contact our Events Team at events@dementiauk.org or your Event Manager.
JustGiving
Setting up a JustGiving page is a great way to fundraise online. Share your link with family, friends and colleagues and watch the donations roll in.
You can use JustGiving to explain why you’re taking on your challenge for Dementia UK, keep track of how much you’ve raised and even share your training progress using Strava so your supporters can see how well you’re doing.
The more you update and share your JustGiving page, the more donations you’ll receive. Read our fundraising page advice page or contact events@dementiauk.org if you need more advice.
Gift Aid
If your supporters are UK taxpayers and their donation is voluntary (not proceeds of a sale), we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated, at no extra cost to them. Make sure they fill in the Gift Aid form or tick the correct boxes if they’re donating online.
If you’re fundraising through JustGiving and your page is connected to Dementia UK, the donations will automatically come to us. If you’ve got cash to pay in, you can do this online, by phone, by bank transfer or by post.
Every penny you raise will make a huge difference to families facing dementia. Each donation, no matter how big or small, will help you reach your target. Did you know that someone simply donating £4 to your fundraiser could pay for the telephone costs of one family calling our free Helpline for immediate support.
to run a full day of face-to-face appointments for families affected by young onset dementia (where symptoms develop under the age of 65).
to answer calls on our Helpline on a Sunday, when other dementia services are closed.
for a whole week to support a community where people are struggling to access local dementia services.
Hetty who ran for Dementia UK in 2024“Running the Berlin marathon was an experience like no other, the crowd support made it easier each step of the way and part way through when I felt like I was starting to struggle the thought and knowledge that I was doing this for my Nan boosted me and I felt a surge of energy that refreshed me a new.”
