Distance carers are a growing population who play a vital role in supporting people living with dementia. Approximately 20% of all informal caregivers provide care from a geographic distance, many of whom are adult children of aging parents. This webinar will explore:

  • The current state of distance care for dementia in the UK, and what support is available to distance carers
  • The experiences of distance carers supporting people living with dementia
  • How Admiral Nurses work with distance carers

This webinar will feature Dr Tiffeny James, Research Fellow, University of Greenwich; Dr Phil Joddrell, Research Fellow, Dementia UK; and Mandy Cheyne, Admiral Nurse, Dementia UK.

Living alone with dementia

People with dementia who live alone report more loneliness and less satisfaction with life, and face unique challenges in accessing assistance and care. The latest statistics suggest as many as one in three of all people with dementia are living alone. This is why Dementia UK have identified living alone with dementia as one of their research priorities, and this webinar addresses:

  • How people who live alone with dementia access support, and what needs to be in place to reduce inequities of provision?
  • What are the psychosocial needs of people living alone with dementia, as reported in published research?
  • How can Admiral Nurses enable people who live alone to remain independent for as long as possible?

This webinar features Linda Clare, Professor of Clinical Psychology of Ageing and Dementia, University of Exeter; Dr Phil Joddrell, Research Fellow, Dementia UK; and Fay Valentine, Admiral Nurse, Dementia UK.

Autism and dementia webinar

The webinar focuses on the care needs of autistic people living with dementia, and how the interaction between autism and dementia calls for personalised care and support.

Autistic people living with dementia often face distinct challenges in accessing appropriate care and support. These challenges may stem from a lack of understanding about how autism and dementia interact, and how best to adapt care to meet individual needs.

  • How can health and care professionals identify signs of dementia in autistic people, and ensure these are not overlooked or misinterpreted?
  • How can care and support be adapted to effectively meet the unique needs of autistic people living with dementia?
  • How can organisations work to improve awareness and develop practical guidance for autistic people with dementia, their families, and professionals?

This webinar features Dr Madeleine Walpert, Deputy Head of Research and Publications at Dementia UK; Dr Gavin Stewart, Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow, King’s College London; and Dr Chris Knifton, Admiral Nurse and Associate Professor of Neurocognitive and Neurodevelopmental Education, De Montfort University.
