Our animation tells the story of a husband, caring for his wife who has dementia, and how lost both feel – until the guidance and support of an Admiral Nurse helps bring them together again for precious moments.
Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, our nurses work alongside the entire family, giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions.
The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline – it helps families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.
We have a series of free information leaflets about dementia for you to read or download. They’re all written by our specialist dementia nurses and put together in response to the questions we hear on our Dementia Helpline and out in the community.
Maureen and Michael have been married for 56 years. Sadly Michael was diagnosed with mixed dementia in 2011 and Maureen cared for him until he went into a care home in June 2016. At first Maureen didn’t know how to cope but thanks to Katie – her Admiral Nurse and her ‘lifeline’ – Maureen feels she has been able to do the best she can for her husband.
“Katie and I have built a close relationship; whenever I have a problem or am feeling stressed I know I can always contact her and she will either visit me at home or telephone. It is the one place I know I can get answers.”
Matthew is an Admiral Nurse who works with families caring for people with dementia in the Wakefield area.
“There’s a lot of people who are lost and really struggling with caring for somebody with dementia. The part of my job I really enjoy is being able to get out there and give that person some hope that things can be different, that things can be better.”
Watch our video of Matthew’s visit to two of the families he’s supporting.
