Take part in a charity event
Whether you run 10km, cycle for miles or trek up a mountain, you can take on a challenge and fundraise for families facing dementia.
Beachy Head, Seven Sisters, and the Brighton coast are just some of the magnificent sights you’ll encounter as you walk, jog or run for Dementia UK.
The South Downs National Park is a superb backdrop for taking on a challenging late summer walk, jog or run to raise vital funds and awareness to support families facing dementia.
All routes start at Eastbourne, taking you up to Beachy Head, past the magnificent Seven Sisters and along the South Downs Way, with stunning ocean views in Brighton for ultramarathon participants. The full challenge then takes trekkers and trail runners to Devil’s Dyke, with a few ups and downs ahead before Arundel comes into view after an amazing 100km journey.
Teams and individuals can choose from one of three ultramarathon routes – the full 100km, a 57km first-half challenge or a 43km second-half challenge – or a 25km distance from Eastbourne to Alfriston.
You’ll be supported by staff and volunteers all the way, with rest stops, food and refreshments to keep you going to the finish line, where you’ll celebrate your amazing achievement.

Right now, nearly one million people are living with dementia in the UK. Too often, families struggle to find support, leaving them feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and alone.

Fundraising ideas
Organising fundraising activities alongside your main challenge will help you smash your goal. Here are some ideas:
JustGiving
Setting up a JustGiving page is a great way to fundraise online. Share your link with family, friends and colleagues, and watch the donations roll in.
You can use JustGiving to explain why you’re taking on your challenge for Dementia UK, keep track of how much you’ve raised, and even share your training progress using Strava so your supporters can see how well you’re doing. The event organisers have set up official events on JustGiving so make sure you connect to the right event on your page.
The more you update and share your JustGiving page, the more donations you’ll receive.
Gift Aid
If your supporters are UK taxpayers and their donation is voluntary (not proceeds of a sale), we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated – at no extra cost to them. Make sure they fill in the Gift Aid form in your fundraising pack or tick the correct boxes if they’re donating online.
Paying in your donations
If you’re fundraising through JustGiving, the donations will automatically come to us. If you’ve got cash to pay in, you can do this online, by phone, by bank transfer or by post.
– Niki, who took on the South Coast Ultra Challenge for Dementia UK in 2024“I wanted to have a focus and test myself in a way I hadn't done before. Itt was the hardest challenge I’ve ever done, mentally and physically. I definitely surprised myself but the support from friends and family was amazing.”
