Become a Volunteer Facebook Champion

Volunteer Facebook Champion support the Virtual Events Team by stewarding our participants via our Challenge Facebook Groups.

Apply now

You’ll help to answer enquiries as well as provide encouragement and support to our challenge participants. Helping to keep them motivated, and to ensure they feel valued and appreciated for their time, raising sponsorship and awareness for Dementia UK. Our Volunteer Facebook Champions will aim to keep each Facebook Group a positive and safe space.

The role is home-based and flexible, however, we do ask for a minimum commitment of 2 hours per week for 2 months (or more) due to the training involved with inducting a new volunteer.

The Virtual Events Team was appointed in 2022 after a continued popularity in events taking place on Facebook. To respond to the demand, we now organise more Facebook Challenges than ever, and aim to continue to grow our virtual events portfolio, ensuring invaluable income for Dementia UK.

We would love to grow our team with the help of amazing volunteers who also have a passion for fundraising and supporting families facing dementia.

  • Meet other likeminded volunteers who want to support families facing dementia.
  • A fantastic addition to your CV.
  • Good experience in using Facebook Groups and supporting challenge participants.
  • To like, comment and post on the Virtual Facebook Challenge Group/s, engaging with supporters in a friendly and positive manner, and encouraging effective communication between participants on their challenge.
  • To flag any negative comments or posts by members of the group to a Dementia UK staff member so it can be dealt with immediately.
  • To flag any issues on the group, such as missing Dementia UK t-shirts, to a member of Dementia UK staff.
  • To be able to answer questions on the group using the FAQ sheet provided, or if the answer is not provided, to flag the question to a Dementia UK staff member.
  • A friendly and thoughtful communicator via social media.
  • Confident with using Facebook, or willing to put the time in to learn.
  • Experience of participating in, and/or moderating a Facebook Group.

Volunteers must be willing to create a work Facebook profile that will only be used whilst volunteering for Dementia UK.

Full training will be given before your first volunteer shift, and you will be working alongside Dementia UK staff members to ensure you feel supported in your role.

Our Volunteer Facebook Champions help to moderate our Facebook Groups for each of our virtual events. You’ll be liking and commenting on people’s posts in the group to make sure everyone taking part feels like part of the team, and has a great experience fundraising with Dementia UK!

You will be invited to an induction on Teams where we will provide you and other new Volunteer Facebook Champions with training and let you know what you will be expected to do on your Facebook shifts.

You will be able to attend fortnightly online drop-in sessions where you can touch base with the team and other volunteers and ask any questions.

We also have a private Facebook Group and a Messenger chat so that volunteers and staff can stay in contact, support one another and ask questions.

We ask that you commit to a minimum of two hours per week for two months. After this time, we hope that you will continue to volunteer as a Facebook Champion – we have lots of amazing Virtual Facebook Challenges planned over the next year and would love your support.

As this role is virtual you can make it fit around your life, volunteering at a time convenient to you – whether that be weekdays, evenings or weekends.

In the last two years, our Virtual Facebook Challenges have raised over £6 million for Dementia UK. This incredible amount has enabled us to grow the number of dementia specialist Admiral Nurses across the UK so more families can receive their life-changing support.

Our Volunteer Facebook Champions have a direct impact on how much money is raised through our Virtual Facebook Challenges. Their support and encouragement are invaluable, ensuring that each participant feels appreciated and inspired to raise vital sponsorship to support families facing dementia.

How to apply

We will review your application and be in contact in the next few weeks to notify you if you have been successful.

Being a carer can be a lonely place at times and you question your value. Becoming a Volunteer Facebook Champion was a real boost to my confidence and put me in a much better place caring for my wife. What I love about the role is the ability to have dialogue and share my journey with others in a similar position. Helping others is a recipe for happiness, and it’s a great chance to be part of a team that appreciates and understands what you’re going through.
