Nothing can truly prepare families for how dementia can turn their lives upside down. But Dementia UK helps families cope by giving them a lifeline to living more positively day-to-day through the unique, specialist one-to-one support of an Admiral Nurse.
Our Admiral Nurses work with families throughout their journey from diagnosis to bereavement and beyond; but especially at the most stressful times, and times of crisis. They help families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.
Without support, dementia can pull a family apart.
Companies can help us reach more families in need of support by making a donation to fund an Admiral Nurse, or by sponsoring the work of our Admiral Nurses over a certain period of time.
Zurich Community Trust
As an official charity partner of the Zurich Community Trust 2018 – 2021, Dementia UK is delighted to benefit from a three-year grant to fund an Admiral Nurse working on our Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline. The grant will also contribute 62% of the Helpline’s core telephone costs for a year.
Helpline Admiral Nurse Vicky Wheeler said:
This is vital funding for our Helpline as we continue to grow and expand our reach. The volume of cases our helpline handles has increased significantly over the last 10 years, from an average of 72 per month in 2007/8 to an average of 1,468 cases per month in 2017/18.
We are extremely grateful for the support from Zurich Community Trust to help meet this rise in calls from families in desperate need, to give them expert care, advice and support that is often very difficult to find elsewhere.
Kate Hodges, Programme Manager at Zurich Community Trust said:
Every grant award is only made possible by Zurich’s amazing employees who fundraise and donate to Zurich Community Trust, whose giving is then matched by a business donation to Zurich Community Trust.
When asked, it was clear from the start that dementia was an issue close to many employee’s hearts which was why the Dementia UK project supporting an Admiral Nurse on the Helpline was a popular choice.
