FAQ’s for participants

Q. I just signed up, now what?

A. Firstly, join the Facebook Group we set up for this challenge… https://www.facebook.com/groups/Walk30MilesInSeptember. Click ‘Join Group’. Once you’re in, you can register for your free t-shirt, set up your Facebook fundraiser, get tips, be inspired and find out anything you want to know about the challenge! The Facebook group will be monitored between 8.30am-8.30pm.

Q. How do I keep track of how many miles I have walked?

A. Strava is a free app that is easy to use to track your miles throughout September, and when you sign up for your free t-shirt you will get a small miles tracker to tick off every mile you complete. Don’t forget to post this on the Facebook group as we would love to see your progress!

Q. What if I don’t complete the challenge?

A. The only thing that matters is that you challenge yourself. Do as much as you can! Every step you take helps to support families facing dementia.

Q. How do I raise money?

A. Facebook Fundraisers are the easiest way to raise money. You can set one up in a few seconds here… https://www.facebook.com/fund/DementiaUK1/ and then it’s really easy to share the page with your Facebook friends. Don’t forget to include Walk 30 Miles in the title of your fundraising page and set the end date to 1st of October (otherwise your page will close after just seven days).

Q. Where will my friends’ money go?

A. Directly to Dementia UK. Once you start receiving sponsorship in your Facebook fundraiser, Facebook will automatically send the funds to us!

Q. How do I get my free t-shirt?

A. We’ll send you a t-shirt and mileage tracker when you fill out the registration form here… https://givp.nl/erf/BwyJb1u2

Q. I have joined the group and requested a t-shirt but it hasn’t arrived yet, how long does it usually take?

A. T-shirts are likely to take 7-10 working days to arrive. We are working hard to get them to you as soon as possible but due to high levels of demand we have a slightly longer waiting time. If it has been more than 10 working days since you registered for a t-shirt then please email events@dementiauk.org and we will look into it.

Q. Can I get free t-shirts for my family?

A. Unfortunately we have limited stock of Dementia UK t-shirts which means we can only send them out to registered participants.

Q. Can I start late or early?

A. Of course! September will be when our Facebook group is active and the majority of people are likely to take part, however we recommend doing this at a time convenient for you. The more challenge participants we have, the more we can help families facing dementia.

Q. Can I just raise money offline with a sponsorship form?

A. Absolutely, just download our sponsorship form here! And don’t forget to ask your sponsors to fill out all the columns so we can claim up to 25% gift aid.

Q. Do my daily steps count? / Can I do this on a treadmill? / Does my walk to work count?

A. People with all levels of fitness are doing this challenge. The important thing is that you’re doing something that challenges you. This will vary from person to person, so tailor the challenge however you like. It should be tough, but doable. You should feel satisfied when you finish it! And we really appreciate every single person taking part – you’re all doing your bit to support families facing dementia.

Q. Can I do more than 30 miles?

A. Absolutely, this is your challenge and you can adapt it to suit you!
