Singer recording a song

Music for memories

Our step by step guide to setting up your own online gig

If you are a DJ, singer or performer, live streaming a virtual ‘gig’ is great way to use your talents and connect with people from the comfort of your home, while raising funds to support families facing dementia.

There are lots of exciting ways to share your talents: you could organise a full gig with yourself and others, arrange a choir performance, do a 24 hour DJ livestream, teach an instrument, or try out some virtual karaoke with your friends! However you decide to do your gig, here are some tips to help you make it a success:

Step one: Pick your gig platform

There are many different platforms you can use to stream your gig, and it is important to choose the one that best meets your needs. Facebook lets you livestream content with a donate button, while Twitch and YouTube give you the option to connect your stream to your Just Giving page. Please get in touch with our Fundraising team by emailing fundraising@dementiauk.org for more information and advice.

Step two: Start fundraising

Set a target for how much you want your gig to raise and create a fundraising page, either on JustGiving or Facebook. Decide how you want to raise money through your gig. You could ask viewers to buy a virtual ticket, offer lessons in your instrument of choice in exchange for a donation, take requests for songs to play for donations, or ask people to donate the cost of a drink, song download or merchandise.

Step three: Get festival ready

Set a date and time for your event – think about when is likely to be best for the people you are inviting. Would an evening be better or during the day at the weekend? Then spread the word through social media, email and WhatsApp. Don’t forget to share your Just Giving page link as well, so that even if people can’t make it they can still donate!

Step four: Thanks for coming along

Let everyone who attended know the total raised from your gig and what this means for families facing dementia during this uncertain time. Please email fundraising@dementiauk.org and we will be happy to provide you with examples of what the money you have raised could fund.
