Time for a Cuppa Together

Hold a virtual tea party and raise money for Dementia UK

It’s time to send out your virtual invitations and think about your video conferencing background – as Time for a Cuppa goes online!

Alongside fundraisers across the nation, please join us and hold a virtual tea party, for an hour at 3pm on Saturday 9th May, to raise vital funds for our Helpline, so Admiral Nurses can support more families living with the double difficulty of dementia and the coronavirus. For every £10,920 we raise, we could fund an Admiral Nurse on the Helpline seven days a week for an entire month.

My mum had dementia and the worst years were the first ones when she was pretending she was fine but secretly knew her memory was going. But she never lost her taste for company and even when she had no idea who anyone was, she loved a party.

I’m proud to be supporting Dementia UK’s Time for a Cuppa Together.

What is Time for a Cuppa Together?

Time for a Cuppa Together is the perfect opportuni-tea to spend time virtually with family, friends, neighbours or colleagues. It’s all about connecting with your loved ones, so why not make yourself a cuppa, have a natter, play some games and raise vital funds for the dementia specialist Admiral Nurses on Dementia UK’s Helpline.

To help our Admiral Nurses support as many families as possible, we would like you to set a fundraising target of £35 which could fund an Admiral Nurse for one hour on our Helpline (of course, you are more than welcome to raise more if you wish!). To help you reach your target, we recommend you ask your guests to donate the cost of a cuppa on your JustGiving page.

When is Time for a Cuppa Together?

You can hold your event on any day or at any time that you like!

Where do I hold my event?

In the comfort of your own home! Every tea party will be held virtually using an online video calling platform. We suggest holding a video call with your group on Facebook messenger, Skype, Zoom or any other platform you would be most comfortable using.

What do I need to do?

  • Register by setting up your JustGiving page
  • Pick a video calling platform
  • Invite your guests by sharing this  social media invitation with all your friends
  • Organise some activities. You could try playing our specially adapted bingo or hold a scavenger hunt!
  • Get fundraising! Why not ask each of your guests to donate the cost of a cuppa? You could also ask for an extra donation if they’re getting involved in a game
  • Enjoy a lovely time catching up with friends, family, neighbours or colleagues and raising money for families facing dementia

For a bit more detail take a look at our guide.

We had a great time at our virtual Time for a Cuppa and it was so easy to setup! We used Facebook Messenger as we are already in a group on it. I just scheduled a time for the event and sent out a message five minutes before as a reminder.

It was a good laugh and it was lovely to see everyone’s smiling faces. We had a couple of virtual tours of people’s houses to see what DIY activity was underway, and checked in with each other to see how we were all coping with the new way of life.

I asked everyone to consider donating what they would have normally spent on a coffee if we were out via my JustGiving page. Everyone was very generous and we raised £55! It was such a success and I’m planning to do it again
