Do something amazing for families facing dementia, while getting outside and tending to something beautiful for a good cause.
What do you need to do?
- Join our 30 day Gardening Challenge Facebook Group
- Set up your Facebook fundraiser and spread the word about your amazing challenge
- Request your FREE Dementia UK t-shirt (you can do this on the Facebook Group)
It’s as simple as that!
Join our community group of virtual fundraisers today and support each other throughout the challenge while sporting our fabulous Dementia UK t-shirts! You can post updates on your progress and ask fellow participants for advice – we’re all in this together. Once you’ve completed your challenge, we’ll send you a virtual certificate as a thank you for all your hard work.
Every minute you spend gardening and every pound you raise will help to ensure that Dementia UK can be there for families and carers in their time of need.
We can’t wait to welcome you onto #TeamDementiaUK, let’s #DoItForDementiaNurses and take part in #30DayGardeningChallenge
Firstly, join the Facebook Group we set up for this challenge. Click ‘Join Group’. Once you’re in, you can register for your free t-shirt, set up your Facebook fundraiser, get tips, be inspired and find out anything you want to know about the challenge! The Facebook group will be monitored between 9am and 6pm weekdays and between 9am and 1pm at the weekends.
Facebook fundraisers are the easiest way to raise money. Once you’re logged into Facebook, you can set one up in a few seconds. It’s really easy to share the page with your Facebook friends. Don’t forget to include 30 day Gardening Challenge in the title of your fundraising page and set the end date to 2nd August (otherwise your page will close after two weeks).
100% of all donations will come directly to Dementia UK. The donations made in your Facebook fundraiser, will be sent directly to us by Facebook. All donations will be used to help us support families facing dementia through our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses.
Ideally you would only have one fundraiser open for the challenge. You can remove, or hide fundraisers using the three dots when logged in to Facebook and on your fundraiser page. Alternatively, change the end date so one of the fundraisers closes early and you can focus your fundraising into one. Don’t worry if your page has donations on it already; all your donations on both pages will still come to Dementia UK and help us support families facing dementia.
We have found that normally when donations don’t appear on your fundraiser page, they will do within 48 hours. However, if your donation hasn’t appeared after this time there are a few different possibilities:
- Donations from other countries can take a lot longer to come through to Facebook and then to Dementia UK. This can be as much as weeks!
- The donation didn’t go through; has the money left your donor’s account? Please ask them to check
- PayPal takes up to three days to register onto your Facebook fundraiser
- Your sponsor didn’t donate to your fundraising page, but instead clicked the ‘donate now’ button which links to Dementia UK directly. It is an easy mistake to make, meaning the money will not show up on your Facebook fundraiser but will be sent directly to us as a donation. Ask your sponsor to check the receipt they were emailed directly from Facebook, as this will say whether they donated to your Facebook fundraiser, or straight to Dementia UK
If the problem persists then please email fundraising@dementiauk.org with the full name, email address and donation amount of each of your missing sponsors and we can do some extra investigation our end.
We’ll send you a t-shirt and tracker when you register. Please note, we can only send out one t-shirt per person and we do not send packs outside of the UK. We will begin sending out t-shirts from the 17th June, and usually they take around 7-10 working days to arrive so please be patient and only contact us if your t-shirt has exceeded this time.
Absolutely simply download and print out a sponsorship form. Please don’t forget to ask your sponsors to fill out all the columns so we can claim up to 25% Gift Aid. If you cannot print, email fundraising@dementiauk.org and we will send you a sponsorship form in the post. Friends and family not on Facebook can donate this way too. Alternatively, you can set up a Just Giving page.
The easiest way to get cash donations to Dementia UK is by donating to yourself through your Facebook fundraiser, or you can use this donation page for our Gardening Challenge.
Please send cheques with a note including your full name, your email address that you use for Facebook and an explanation that you raised the money for the Gardening Facebook Challenge to Dementia UK at the following address: Dementia UK, 7th Floor, One Aldgate, London, EC3N 1RE.
If you would prefer to make a bank transfer, then please email fundraising@dementiauk.org for the appropriate details. Alternatively, you can make a payment over the phone by calling 020 8036 5440.
You can complete your Gardening Challenge wherever you like, however you like! The idea is that you begin the 30 days whenever works for you – so some people may start before or after you depending on when you signed up!
The only requirement is that you must follow government guidelines on social distancing. Whenever you complete your daily 30 minutes of gardening just remember to tick it off on your tracker and post in the group after you complete a row so we can see how you’re getting on! You can also make the challenge flexible to suit you, for example, if you miss a day, you could do an hour of gardening the following day.
The only thing that matters is that you challenge yourself and enjoy helping raise awareness and funds for families facing dementia. Do as much as you can! Update your sponsors regularly, be clear about how far you’ve come in your challenge and make sure they are still happy for their donations to go to Dementia UK! Every time you are active and post about your challenge, you will help Dementia UK support more families facing dementia.
Unfortunately we have limited stock of Dementia UK t-shirts which means we can only send them out to registered participants.
Absolutely. This is your challenge, and you can tailor it to suit you! Just be clear with your supporters on the time you have spent and keep them regularly updated with your progress.
Injuries are unfortunately always a possibility in any challenge. It is very important that you seek professional medical advice if you are in pain or trip/fall whilst out in your garden. Please see a doctor or call 111 if you are unsure about what to do. When you can and if appropriate, update your supporters. They should understand why you may not be able to finish, and it’s always good to check that they are still happy for their donations to go to Dementia UK.
