How Dementia UK supports an Admiral Nurse service
Business Development team
The team is comprised of:
- Business Development Manager, who leads on strategic business development on a national level
- Business Development Officers (BDOs), who lead on regional service development and the support and maintenance of existing Admiral Nurse services
- They are the key link to each Admiral Nurse service; providing ongoing assistance to host organisations and linking Admiral Nurse teams with other vital support from Dementia UK
Practice and Professional Development team
A team leader and skilled practice development facilitators who have expertise in providing a range of learning and development activities in supporting Admiral Nurses to maintain and strengthen their clinical expertise as dementia specialist nurses.
This includes:
- induction for new Admiral Nurses
- support with individual learning and development
- a range of learning opportunities such as masterclasses and regional practice development days
- communities of practice
- an annual residential forum for all Admiral Nurses to join together to learn and share best practice
Consultant Admiral Nurse team
They provide:
- clinical support to new Admiral Nurse teams
- expert professional advice, guidance and support
- this support might include professional leadership and consultancy; expert practice; service, practice and policy development
- they ensure that new teams have the confidence to deliver a specialist dementia service to respond to the most complex family needs
Service Evaluation team
The team provide:
- advice on evaluation design and methodology
- develops service evaluation plans
- provides appropriate evaluation tools and supports analysis of data and reporting
Communications team
The team provide:
- a checklist for the host and can make direct links with the Communications Lead
- development of launch press release and issuing to media
- guidance around dedicating a web page to the Admiral Nurse service/setting up a freestanding website if appropriate; use of logos; how to order leaflets and merchandise; template poster; any other materials e.g. a banner
Research and Publications team
The team aims to:
- coordinate Admiral Nurses and teams to be involved in both internal and external research studies
- support Admiral Nurses in the development of a project or research and advise on methods and activities
- support Admiral Nurses to publish in peer review journals to disseminate and share their research and expert practice
