An update on our campaigning work during the Coronavirus pandemic

We are hearing from many family carers who are vulnerable, worried and without access to the support that they need during these challenging times.

Our Admiral Nurse Helpline is on hand to provide emotional and practical support but as a charity we are also working with the government and other charities to highlight the key issues that families are facing.

What we are currently working on:

  • We continue to hear from vulnerable family carers who are self-isolating and unable to access the essential food supplies that they need. Dementia UK is working with the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and other charities to ensure that all vulnerable groups, including people affected by dementia, have access to food supplies.  We will hopefully be able to provide an update shortly

  • Many families are struggling in their caring roles with little or no social care support. This is of great concern to us and we are working as part of the Care and Support Alliance to ensure that families are able to access the care that they so urgently need during the pandemic

  • Improved access to PPE and testing for care home residents and staff is crucial to ensure the safety of some of the most vulnerable members of our society. We are calling on the government to urgently and consistently address this issue

Please email us if you would like to share your experiences on any of the issues above or if you wish to be kept updated on our campaigning work.
