Music for Life is a partnership between Dementia UK and Wigmore Hall. The project works with people with dementia and the staff who care for them in a variety of settings. Professional musicians use improvisation to draw out the potential of people with dementia for self expression and communication, particularly helping those who are emotionally isolated and disempowered as a result of the advanced stage of their condition.

Dementia UK contributes to the project by facilitating staff development.
Dementia UK’s trainers attend and closely observe the workshops. This enables the trainer to help staff reflect on the impact of the sessions which can in turn lead to an increased understanding of the training and development needs of staff.

Music for Life can improve the skills and knowledge of staff thus influencing the delivery of care to all other service users in the care setting.

John Suchet has been appointed a Patron of Music for Life at Wigmore Hall.
