END OF LIFE CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA

Course Aim: This 2 day course aims to enable participants to explore some of the various challenges that arise in caring for people with dementia and their carers throughout the trajectory, with a particular focus on end of life care.

COGNITIVE STIMULATION THERAPY

Course Aim: To give learners an overview of how to deliver Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST). CST is a brief evidence-based group treatment for people with dementia. This interactive course will include a background about CST and how it can be used, research overview and detailed presentation of the treatment, including video footage of groups.

BRAIN AND BEHAVIOUR

Course Aim: Objective 13 of the National Dementia Strategy calls for an informed and effective workforce. It is essential that key members of the workforce have up-to-date knowledge about the brain, its organization and the effects of damage to its many different parts. This fun and interactive workshop offers vital information in a format that is accessible, clearly linked to a person-centred and strength-based approach.

CIRCLE DANCING FOR PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA


Course Aim: To provide an introduction to core skills, theory and practicalities to run Circle Dancing for People with Dementia. Inspiring, practical and productive and facilitated by skilled and passionate trainers, this one day training programme would be of value and interest to all those currently providing activities for people with dementia or those who are thinking about having a go!

DEMENTIA AND SENSORY IMPAIRMENT

Course Aim: To provide a foundation of knowledge about the main sight and hearing conditions; how they affect people, particularly people with dementia. To introduce participants to what we currently know about dementia and sensory impairment and develop insights into how to improve the lives of those affected by combinations of these conditions. The perspective taken is a bio-psycho-social approach to person-centred care and aims to offer a holistic way of looking at the situations faced by people affected by sensory losses and dementia.

LIFE STORY WORK FOR PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA


Course Aim: To give participants direct experience of reminiscence work, to share some imaginative approaches which have been tried and tested in the field, and to send participants away with lots of practical ideas.
