Commissioning Training
One of the key outcomes from the Care Quality Commission Regulations Framework is that appropriate training is defined as enabling staff to take part in relevant learning and development so that they can carry out their role effectively and are competent to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their family carers.
At Dementia UK our aim is to provide training that will equip all staff to develop their skills, creating a confident and competent workforce.
The Commissioning Process

Stage One: Learning & Training Needs Analysis
A Dementia Pioneer will conduct a Learning/Training Needs Analysis over the phone in the first instance. If your needs are straightforward your Dementia Pioneer will proceed with arranging training for you and prepare a schedule as below.
If your needs are more complex (or if you require courses not covered within this development programme) your Dementia Pioneer will meet with you to discuss your needs.
Stage Two: Training & Consultancy Process
Following the meeting your Dementia Pioneer will draft a Training Proposal outlining the ways in which Dementia UK Training may be able to assist with your learning, training and development needs.
Stage Three: Schedule & Terms and Conditions
Once learning objectives and provisional training delivery dates have been agreed, your Dementia Pioneer will forward a Schedule for the Provision of Training & Consultancy Services. The Schedule will outline the date, venue and learning objectives for the course(s) and confirm all practical arrangements, as well as Dementia UK Training's terms and conditions. A copy of these documents will need to be signed and returned to Dementia UK Training before any training commences.
Stage Four: Training Design
Where training is tailor-made, Dementia UK Training will design a course(s) to best meet the learning outcomes that have been identified. All of our courses are designed to be interactive and use a range of training methods.
Stage Five: Training and Consultancy Delivery
The training and/or consultancy will be delivered as agreed. If you have requested a series of sessions, we will maintain regular contact to ensure that the service we are providing continues to meet your needs, and to check on progress. We believe this is an important element of quality assurance.
Stage Six: Monitoring and Evaluation
Your Dementia Pioneer will monitor and evaluate all the training you have commissioned. Copies of Learner's evaluation forms will be forwarded at the end of each training session. Your Dementia Pioneer will also relay any feedback given via the Trainer Feedback Forms.
Stage Seven: Follow Up Review
When all the agreed training is complete your Dementia Pioneer will organise a review (either by telephone or visit) to ensure you are happy with the service we have provided and to identify any future training needs your organisation or staff may have. We believe this last stage is very important, as learning is an on-going process and we value your feedback in developing our services.
Transferring Learning to the Workplace
At Dementia UK Training, we believe it is essential for learners to put their learning with us into practice. We are committed to providing systems, whereby learning can be extended beyond the training delivered in the training room.
At the end of each course, learners are given an information pack, which includes a certificate of attendance, containing the course learning outcomes and a reflective practice tool. This can be used as part of supervision to enable discussion about skills development and reflective practice, professional development and to assess any further learning needs the learner may identify having undertaken training with Dementia UK.
We also run 'Reflective Practice Sessions' with groups of staff within the workplace (e.g. as part of a team development programme) to complement our training. Staff can discuss practice issues as they emerge or practice delivering person-centred care on the 'shop floor' with the guidance of a skilled and experienced facilitator.
