Joe's Clubs

Joe's Club Members

Joe’s Club is a group for caregivers of people with dementia and is facilitated by Admiral Nurses in two West Midlands localities. It is called Joe’s Club in memory of  Joseph Levy, ‘Admiral Joe’, whose family inspired the creation of
Dementia UK. Joe’s Club was established in response to caregivers expressing a need to have a forum in which they could learn about dementia, and enhance their caring skills, whilst being afforded the opportunity to talk to others and receive mutual support.

Joe's Club aims to:

  • Reduce feelings of isolation
  • Promote a sense of connectedness
  • Provide a frame of reference
  • Deliver education and training
  • Improve health and well-being
  • Enable carers to feel empowered and involved

The first Joe’s Club was developed in Bedworth, North Warwickshire, in 2004 and Joe’s Clubs are currently available in 5 locations in the West Midlands. Joe’s Clubs meet on a monthly basis and is a closed group, offered to carers as one of the interventions provided by Admiral Nurses.
