Home Choice Care provides a broad range of care and support services, enabling people to live independently in their own homes.

Patsy Daeche, Central Resources and Communications Manager says:

"Home Choice Care are delighted to be working with Dementia UK as their Charity of the Year 2011.

Home Choice Care are enjoying a year of fundraising for the charity with a whole host of events taking place with each of our branches - from raffles to fun days, and other organised events. We're aiming to raise £10,000 and have already gotten off to a flying start.

But as well as raising money for the charity, Home Choice Care are also helping to raise awareness of Dementia UK and the need for Admiral Nurses, who offer individual support for family carers and people with Dementia.

We're looking forward to having a fun and successful year of fund and awareness raising with Dementia UK".

The swimming club is hoping to raise funds for the charity by organising staff fundraising activities, holding raffles, cakes sales and sponsored swimming events throughout the year.

Sandy Clayton, office manager, says:

"We chose Dementia UK as our Charity of the Year in memory of the club's founding member, Harry Travis, who had dementia. He was an inspiration to us all and a Master Swimmer.

We also feel that this is the ideal opportunity to raise awareness of dementia to young people"

Specsavers in Barrow

Specsavers in Barrow has announced Dementia UK as its charity partner for 2011. The store decided to choose the charity after a staff member's parent was diagnosed with dementia in late 2010.

Staff took part in the 40-mile Keswick to Barrow walk in May while other fundraising events - from quiz nights to sponsored bike rides - have been scheduled throughout 2011.

Andrea Wood, store manager, says:

'The team in-store is always committed to helping worthwhile regional causes, but we're trying to raise at least £2,000 for Dementia UK to personally help our colleague and her mother who has been recently diagnosed with the illness.

'We are enthusiastic to get the fundraising ball rolling and help towards providing the best possible care and support for people living with dementia.'

The Godd Care Group in Hyde ParkThe Good Care Group

On Sunday 19th September The Good Care Group held their first family fundraising activity with a walk around London's Hyde Park to raise money for Dementia UK, their chosen Charity of the Year.

Employees from the London office and their families were joined by carers to walk around the Serpentine, enjoy a picnic and a bit of cricket before a quick splash in the Princess of Wales' Memorial Fountain. The weather was warm and a lovely time was had by all.

They raised over £200 and held another walk that took place in April 2011.

Worldham Golf Club

Worldham Golf Club chose Dementia UK as the Captain’s charity in 2010 and raised an incredible £5,000!

The club held a number of competitions with all money raised from fees, fines and raffles going to Dementia UK.  Regular quiz evenings were held throughout the year and the winners tended to donate their prize money to Dementia UK too. A club member’s son ran a marathon and a competition was held to see who could guess his time, which alone raised £300!

The cheque for £5,000 was presented to Barbara Stephens, CEO of Dementia UK, at a quiz night on 25 February 2011.

A huge thank you to everyone involved!
